They’re calling him Phil ” The Wallet” Kessel.
The star Toronto forward has agreed to an eight-year extension on his contract – worth US$64 million.
The agreement was signed just hours before the Maple Leafs’ regular-season opener in Montreal and includes a limited no-trade clause.
Kessel had 20 goals and 32 assists in 48 games last year and he had one season left on his previous deal at $5.4 million.
The two-time all-star will turn 26 on Wednesday.
