The world’s population is aging so quickly, a global study reveals, most countries are not prepared to support their swelling numbers of elderly people.

The study is being released today by the United Nations Population Fund and the elder rights group HelpAge International.

It ranks the social and economic well-being of elders in 91 countries.  Sweden has come out on top, Afghanistan is in last place, Canada ranks fifth overall.

The Global AgeWatch Index shows by the year 2050, people over the age of 60 will outnumber children under the age of 15 for the first time in history.
