Great news for apple fans – and we’re not talking technology.
Ontario’s apple crop has bounced back after some extreme weather wiped out about 85 per cent of the crop last year – when we had a span of unseasonably warm weather in March that tricked the trees into blooming earlier than usual.
Then came a killer frost which destroyed the flowers that produce the fruit.
But the Apple Marketing Board says this year’s growing season has produced huge apples that are so numerous they are bending the branches at some farms.
Growers have had excellent conditions this season : plenty of sunshine – and rain when they needed it.
Ontario produces 40 per cent of Canada’s apples.
