He was a foodie long before the term was coined and helped propel President’s Choice into one of Canada’s top brands.  Dave Nichol has died at the age of 73.  He passed away on Sunday but we are just finding out today.  No cause of death has been released.

Many of the products Dave introduced are still on the market today, including the President’s Choice Decadent Chocolate Chip Cookie, which turned 25 this year. He’s also responsible for groundbreaking foods such as Memories of Szechwan Peanut Sauce and Zipper Back Shrimp.  Dave Nichol joined Loblaw in 1972 and held various roles with the company, including president of Loblaw Supermarkets and head of it’s product development team.  Until recently, his consulting firm, Dave Nichol and Associates, continued to create unique products on behalf of his domestic and international clients.  A memorial service for Dave Nichol is planned for the spring and will be announced at a later date.
