In an impassioned plea for doctor assisted deaths, Doctor Donald Low says in a YouTube video “I am going to die, but what worries me, is how I’m going to die.” Doctor Low speaks in a video which was recorded eight days before he died last week of a brain tumour at the age of 68. Doctor Low guided Toronto through the SARS crisis ten years ago and was microbiologist in chief at Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital. In the YouTube video he made his case for medically assisted dying. “There’s a lot of opposition to it, a lot of clinicians have (opposed) dying with dignity. I wish they could live in my body for 24 hours and I think they would change that opinion. I’m just frustrated not being able to have control of my own life, not being able to make the decision for myself when enough is enough.”
The postscript to the video says Doctor Low did not have the death he had hoped for, but he died in his wife’s arms and he was not in pain. The founder of this radio station is an advocate for the “Right to Die” movement. Moses Znaimer is the co-lead patron, along with actor Christopher Plummer, of “Dying with Dignity Canada”.
