The federal government is adding to the fund to build a subway in Scarborough.

Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty has announced that Ottawa is contributing $660-million to an extension of the Bloor-Danforth line.

In a veiled dig at Ontario’s minority government, Flaherty points out that his government is in a majority position, so the money is guaranteed.

The province has already committed $1.4-billion to a route that Transportation Minister Glen Murray says will extend the east-west line two stops beyond Kennedy to Scarborough Town Centre. The plan announced by Flaherty will allow for a three-stop route ending at Sheppard.

A jubliant Mayor Rob Ford says he is grateful that all three levels of government are now at the table.

How the two plans will merge is yet to be seen.
