VIA Rail train service has resumed between Toronto and Ottawa.  VIA has been busing passengers between Ottawa and Brockville since Wednesday when a bus slammed into a VIA train in suburban Ottawa.  Six people on the bus, including the driver, were killed.  They include two 21 year old male students at Carleton University, and a 53 year old woman heading to work at Library and Archives Canada.  Romi Gupta was on the bus and survived the crash.  She and her husband returned to the crash site yesterday, still trying to comprehend what happened.  “She called and said I’m in an accident with the bus and the train, and you just imagine thinking of that and my work colleagues said leave, go go go.” Gupta’s husband explained, “and she said I’m hurt, so you think of the worst, but my hearts and prayers (go) to the families who lost their loved ones.”

Transportation Safety Board investigators say they’ve recovered data recorders from the bus and locomotive involved in the accident.  The data from the train recorder has been downloaded and is being analyzed. It’s expected to take several months to figure out why the crowded bus went through a lowered safety barrier into the train.
