Hercule Poirot will sleuth again.
Agatha Christie’s estate has commissioned crime novelist and poet Sophie Hannah to write a new book featuring the Belgian detective.
It will be the first novel sanctioned by the Agatha Christie estate to carry on the work of the author who died in 1976. And it comes 90 years after Christie introduced Poirot in the novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles.
Sophie Hannah says she discovered Christie’s writing as a young girl and collected them all. She says it’s what made her decide to become a mystery writer.
Christie’s grandson, Mathew Prichard, says the estate hopes a new novel based on Christie’s characters will introduce her books to new generations.
Poirot isn’t the only literary character being brought back to life. A new book featuring P.G. Wodehouse’s Jeeves and Wooster will be out next year. And a new James Bond adventure will also hit the book shelves.
