Toronto City Council voted 22-to-11 today to appoint a candidate to fill the Etobicoke Centre seat vacated by former deputy mayor Doug Holyday.
The next step is for Etobicoke-York Community Council to hold a special meeting October 3rd to choose its preferred candidate.
Toronto City council meet’s on October 10th to appoint a candidate.
The person who is appointed will serve for a year until voters go to the polls for the next municipal election in October 2014.
During today’s two-hour debate, Mayor Rob Ford said he preferred a byelection because of it’s an “open and transparent choice.”
