Toronto City Council will meet this morning to decide how Doug Holyday’s successor will be chosen.
Holyday’s Ward 3 seat became vacant when the former Etobicoke Mayor left for provincial politics.
Mayor Rob Ford has been campaigning for a byelection to fill the seat. He said on his weekly radio show that it’s better that having city councillors lobbied by potential appointees.
But some councillors are still leaning towards an appointment. Shelley Carroll says there will only be eight council meetings between the new councillor’s election and the next general vote. She feels the short tenure of the replacement doesn’t justify the $225,000 cost.
A byelection couldn’t be organized before November.
