Mac Harb is stepping down from the Senate.
The former Liberal senator is also dropping his legal challenge.
In addition, he will re-pay tens of thousands of dollars on top of the more than almost 52-thousand he’s already paid to reimburse tax payers for inappropriate living and travel expense claims.
Harb’s spending came under scrutiny through an external audit in May.
The Senate has also advised Harb to repay more than 231-thousand dollars claimed since 2005 or face an extensive audit of his expense claims over that period. The RCMP is looking into the audit that was done on Harb’s expenses.
In documents filed earlier this summer, an investigator said he believes the senator really lives in Ottawa and should not have claimed the housing and travel expenses.
