Ontario’s New Democratic Party says it will not support any effort by the Liberal government to raise taxes or impose road tolls for upgrades to public transit in the Toronto-Hamilton area.
N-D-P Leader Andrea Horwath says the Liberals should find the money they need by dropping plans for corporate tax breaks because Ontarians are too hard pressed these days.
Premier Kathleen Wynne confirmed Monday that she will push ahead on searching for new revenue streams to fund transit expansion – but rejected the idea of raising property taxes.
Meanwhile – Ontario has two new N-D-P members of the legislature. Percy Hatfield of Windsor and Peggy Sattler of London were sworn-in this morning and can take their seats when business resumes on September 9th.
