Senator Pamela Wallin says an independent audit of her travel claims is “fundamentally flawed and unfair.”
The audit was prepared by the accounting firm Deloitte. It was submitted to a Senate committee yesterday and will be made public today. Sources say it found that Wallin will have to repay between $121,000 and $142,000.
But Wallin says Deloitte used revised guidelines on allowable expenses that were introduced last year, and applied them to claims going back to 2009. She points out that she has already repaid $38,000 in expenses that were disallowed. She says she will repay whatever amount is finally decided on, and she will use her own money.
