A Toronto city councillor is renewing her call for Rob Ford to temporarily step down as Mayor.

Councillor Jaye Robinson made the comments after videos on the weekend showed the mayor in a state of apparent intoxication at the Taste of the Danforth Festival.

Robinson originally recommended Ford seek help when he refused to answer allegations that he had smoked crack cocaine. She says the weekend’s events indicate Ford still needs to seek help.

The call comes as another story has surfaced pointing to the mayor’s apparent links to characters with ties to the drug world.

The Globe and Mail is reporting that Ford showed up unexpectedly at the Toronto West Detention Centre one night in March, asking for a tour. Since it was well after visiting hours, his request was denied. Ford then said he wanted to meet with one of the men being housed in the jail. That request was also denied, and the mayor left.

Correctional officials considered the visit unusual enough they sent an email to the Ministry of Correctional Services.

The Globe reports that Ford wanted to meet with Bruno Bellissimo, a childhood friend who has had numerous run-ins with the law. Sources say he has a history of drug-related activity.

It’s the latest piece of a puzzle to surface since allegations arose that Ford was caught on video smoking crack cocaine, and has associated with people close to the drug trade. Ford denies the allegations, and the video never surfaced.
