The environmental protest many knew as the War in the Woods happened 20 years ago this weekend.

A demo in B-C’s Clayoquot Sound attracted worldwide attention as environmental lawyer Robert Kennedy Jr. weighed in and rock band Midnight Oil played a concert at the protest camp.

During the summer-long protest over 800 people were arrested for trying to protect the forests from logging.

Sadly, the mayor of Ucluelet says the promise of a new way of doing things never materialized.
