There’s an inconvenience for TTC riders this weekend.  There will be no subway service on the bottom loop of the Yonge-University-Spadina line Saturday and Sunday.  So that means there will be no trains through the downtown core from St. George Station to Union and around to Bloor.  TTC CEO Andy Byford says the shutdown is for signal installation, ” a huge project and it needs to be done piece by piece, very carefully, because at the end of the day, the signalling system is an absolute safety critical system.”

All trains on the University-Spadina subway will turn back north at St. George Station on Saturday and Sunday.  All trains on the Yonge subway will turn back north at Bloor-Yonge station.  Shuttle bus service will run between St. George, St. Andrew, King and Bloor Yonge stations.  The Bloor-Danforth subway line will be unaffected and will run as usual this weekend. And it’s a good thing, since this is Taste of the Danforth weekend.  The Danforth will close to traffic between Broadview and Jones from 11am today through until Sunday at midnight.  Taste of the Danforth begins at 6pm today.
