A statue in Florence has suffered “damage by tourist.”

The 14th-Century sculpture lost a finger after an American tourist decided to get up close and personal.

A security guard saw the tourist touching the statue but couldn’t stop him before the damage was done.

The sculpture at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo is believed to be the work of Giovanni d’Ambrogio.

The damaged digit was not the original. It had been broken and replaced years ago.

The tourist has apologized, and could receive a fine. The museum’s director says the “do not touch” rule seems to have been forgotten these days.
