Could this be the future of food? Scientists spent five years at Maastricht University in The Netherlands developing hamburger in the lab. They spend $330,000 in the process. Monday, in London, they served up the first-ever hamburger grown from stem cells of cattle. Team leader Mark Post, says “for the burger to succeed, it has to look, feel and taste like the real thing.” Reaction was mixed. One taster said it reminded him of cake; another said it looked like burger, had the texture of burger, but because of no fat, it didn’t really taste like burger. Post suggested it might have gone better with a bit of cheese. For $330.000, it could have also come with fries and a milk shake.
