Peter Capaldi is the next star of the long-running science fiction series ”Doctor Who.”
The announcement made during a live broadcast on the BBC.
The 55-year-old Capaldi’s best known as spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in the political comedy ”The Thick of It.”
”Doctor Who” debuted in 1963
Capaldi becomes the 12th one to play the doctor, who travels in a time machine that looks like an old-fashioned British police phone booth.
It’s one of the BBC’s most popular programs, home and abroad.
