In documents filed in court today the RCMP alleges that Senator Patrick Brazeau broke the law by filing wrongful travel and housing expense claims.
Corporal Greg Horton says the mounties believe Brazeau did not own the house he claimed as his primary residence and did not stay there some of the times when he said he did.
That house in Maniwaki, Quebec is owned by Brazeau’s father and is about 140 kilometres north of Ottawa.
Senators living more than 100 kilometres outside the national capital are allowed to claim 22-thousand dollars for a second residence in Ottawa – an allowance that has been under growing scrutiny.
Brazeau is among three senators who are accused of breach of trust by filing inappropriate travel and housing claims.
The RCMP is also investigating former Conservative Senator, Mike Duffy and Liberal Senator, Mac Harb.
