The Director General of the famed Bolshoi Theater has been fired.

The storied theatre has been mired in scandal over a number of issues, including  an acid attack on its artistic director in January.

Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky says Anatoly Iksanov is being replaced by another senior arts manager, Vladimir Urin. Iksanov is to stay on as his adviser.

Many of the leading dancers of the Bolshoi have been very vocal in their disdain for Iksanov. One principal dancer has accused him of mismanaging the Bolshoi’s billion-dollar reconstruction, ruining its repertoire, and abusing dancers’ rights. Iksanov dismissed the claims, claiming the dancer was after his job.
