The City of Calgary has picked itself up, dried itself off, and is ready to welcome the world for its yearly celebrations of all things “cowboy”.

Two weeks after much of the city was inundated by flood waters, a state of emergency has been lifted just in time for the beginning of the Calgary Stampede. Crews have worked non-stop to get the city and the stampede grounds ready.

Retired astronaut and space station commander Chris Hadfield is this year’s Stampede parade Marshall.

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he didn’t think anything could top last year’s 100th anniversary Stampede. But he thinks, after all the city has been through over the past two weeks, this year’s will be even better.
