Parts of Southern Alberta are cleaning up after severe flooding, while other areas remain under water.
About 65,000 residents of Calgary have been allowed to return home, but many more are being told to stay away. Building inspectors are checking all of the city’s infrastructure to make sure there is no damage. Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi says officials hope displaced residents will be able to return to their homes tonight, and to work tomorrow.
Elsewhere in the province, flood waters remain high. The South Saskatchewan River appears to be peaking in Medicine Hat. Some parts of the city have been flooded, but other parts have stayed dry, and the damage may not be as severe as some had feared.
About ten thousand residents of Medicine Hat were forced to leave their homes with the threat of flooding.
