Former Premier Dalton McGuinty has resigned his seat in the legislature.
In a written statement, McGuinty confirmed he was stepping down after 23 years as the MPP for Ottawa-south.
After he quit as premier last October, McGuinty said he’d stay on as the MPP for Ottawa-South until the next election.
His resignation comes as opposition MPPs demand he re-appear before the committee investigating the gas plant scandal to answer for the deletion of email records connected to the decision.
Premier Wynne acknowledges the scandal has tarnished McGuinty’s record, but she feels he will be remembered for much more than the gas plant issue. She says his work on education reform and health care funding will become his true legacy.
