The American Film Institute presented Mel Brooks with its 41st Lifetime Achievement Award last night in Hollywood.
A galaxy of stars paid tribute to the man behind Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and The Producers.
There were tributes from Billy Crystal, Carl Reiner, and Martin Scorsese, who presented Brooks with the award.
Brooks was recently asked what his favourite film was. He said it was one of his less-successful projects, To Be Or Not To Be, which he made with his wife, Anne Bancroft, in 1983. He said it was because he loved working with her.
Bancroft died in 2005.
In introducing Brooks, Martin Scorsese said he belongs in the same category as Laurel and Hardy and the Marx Brothers, because he “has made his own tradition of greatness.”
