Something to consider next time the doctor writes you up a prescription for antibiotics.  A new study is linking a commonly used class of antibiotics to kidney damage.  The study says patients taking the drugs known as fluoroquinolones have double the risk of developing kidney problems than people who aren’t taking these drugs.  The research also suggests this effect is not seen with other commonly used antibiotics such as amoxicillin and azithromycin.

The study is published in this week’s issue of the Canadian Medical Association Journal.
