Our city has become “Toronto The Fair.”
The designation comes from Canada’s largest fair-trade certifying agency.
Toronto is now in the company of other socially-minded communities across the country, including Vancouver, Barrie, and Sherbrooke, Quebec.
With more than 270 stores and 155 cafés across the city selling items bearing the Fair Trade symbol, Toronto is the largest city in North America to earn the designation as a city where people are committed to buying products made sustainably by workers paid fair wages- in safe working conditions.
Last month, Toronto City Council passed a motion to purchase only Fair Trade certified coffee, tea and sugar – for all city services.
