A growing number of high-rise buildings in the province are having problems keeping their elevators serviced as a strike by the International Union of Elevator Constructors continues.

Dean MacKay is VP Operations with Wilson  Blanchard Management.

He’s also President of The Association of Condominium Mangers of Ontario.

He says the number of out of service condo elevators is increasing.

MacKay says elevators that have someone trapped in them are given priority over all other calls for assistance.

The strike is also preventing people with mobility issues from accessing some TTC subway stations.

Nine elevators are currently out of service.

And today a 57-year-old Toronto man is facing mischief charges after police say two apartment building elevators were tampered with.

The incident happened after an elevator repair service was called to a building …  but police say the person who showed up to do the work wasn’t authorized by the company to do the job.

It’s alleged the person was given access to the elevator room and altered the operating functions of two elevators in the building.
