Friends of Toronto’s High Park Zoo are receiving thank you emails this week for helping to save the historic zoo.  It was always funded by the city of Toronto, but in January of last year, council revoked funding of $227,000 for the zoo’s annual operations, threatening its closure six months later in June.  “Friends of the High Park Zoo” was then created to raise the money and awareness to keep the zoo open.  Dan Abrahams is the chair of the zoo’s board of directors.  He says less than a year later, close to $300,000 was raised; more than enough to cover a year’s operating costs, and perhaps consider some capital enhancements.  Abrahams also tells supporters in his email, that the Honey Family Foundation will again double donations made to support the High Park Zoo’s annual operating budget until June 15th.  Zoomer Media Founder Moses Znaimer has been a big supporter of the Friends of Toronto’s High Park Zoo movement.  There’s more information online at highparkzoo.ca
