Toronto mayor Rob Ford says the Bixi bike – share program is a failure and should be dissolved.
Earlier today, TTC Chair Karen Stintz floated the idea of having the city take over the operation of Bixi .
The Executive Director of Cycle Toronto – Jared Kolb says Bixi Bike needs to expand if it’s ever going to make money.
Kolb says only about 1,000 bikes are on the road and many cycling-friendly neighbourhoods – such as Parkdale, Liberty Village and Leslieville are not yet in the network.
Stintz says she will ask city staff to look at whether it would be viable for the TTC to take over Bixi and doing so might allow more bike-share stations to be added at TTC stations – to complement the existing transit system.
