Great spring weather is promised for outdoor events this weekend – including the annual “Jane’s Walks” in honour of legendary urban thinker, writer and activist Jane Jacobs – who died in 2006.
She was a firm believer in the importance of local residents having input on how their neighbourhoods develop and she encouraged people to familiarize themselves with the places where they live, work and play.
Since its inception in Toronto in 2007, “Jane’s Walk” has expanded rapidly. In 2011, over 500 walks were held in 75 cities, in 15 countries worldwide.
The main “Jane’s Walk” event takes place annually on the first weekend of May, to coincide with Jane Jacobs’ birthday.
