It is a national day of mourning in Bangladesh as rescuers find more bodies in the concrete debris of a collapsed garment factory building, taking the death toll to 430.
In addition, police say another 149 people are still missing.
Loblaw’s Joe Fresh label was producing clothing in the 8 storey garment factory which collapsed last week. Galen Weston, executive chairman of Loblaw Companies Limited, made his first public comments on the tragedy yesterday. He says he and his colleagues were deeply shaken by the factory collapse.
The company has promised to provide compensation for the families of the victims. Weston told analysts on an earnings call there is more the company will do and that will be made public over the next few days. He also says there’s been no measurable impact on Joe Fresh sales since the tragedy in Bangladesh.
