Ontario’s Finance Minister wants the opposition parties to give his budget a chance.

Charles Sousa will table the first budget of the Kathleen Wynne government this afternoon. The Conservatives have already said they will vote against it, but Sousa is asking the Tories to give it a chance.

The Conservatives say the contents of the budget don’t matter; the government is corrupt and must be brought down.

The NDP has outlined several issues they want to see in the budget in exchange for their support, including a reduction in auto insurance premiums, a delay in corporate tax breaks, and measures to improve home care and youth unemployment.

But NDP leader Andrea Horwath says she is making no guarantees her party will support the budget.

Sousa has also revealed his fiscal plan will also include the first of the so-called revenue tools to pay for public transit. It will allow drivers to pay a premium to use the high occupancy vehicle lanes even though they don’t have any passengers.

The HOV lanes will still be free to drivers carrying at least one passenger.
