Opposition MPPs at Queen’s Park have been given more ammunition to back up their accusations against the Liberal government over costs associated with cancelling the gas plants in Oakville and Mississauga.

The Chief Executive of the Ontario Power Authority  testified at Queens Park this morning that the price tag was 310-million dollars in bottom line costs to scrap and move the Oakville plant. That’s almost eight times the Liberals have long maintained the move cost. Colin Andersen’s number was calculated by OPA staff, and is also higher than the 241 million calculated for the government agency by a consulting company in the last month. Andersen explained to legislative committee members, these numbers will continue to evolve and be debated as more information becomes available.

Premier Kathleen Wynne will testify this afternoon under oath before the committee. It’s rare for a sitting premier to agree to appear before a committee, but Wynne says she has tried to make it clear since winning the Liberal leadership in January that she wants to be open and transparent.
