Health Minister, Deb Matthews says Sunnybrook Veterans Centre will NOT be subject to more accountability measures after complaints about the quality of care there.
Matthews says there’s already enough government oversight at the 500 bed facility here in Toronto.
The Health Minister says the veterans centre has to meet standards under legislation that applies to all hospitals in the province even though there are no mandatory inspections as there are at hospitals.
Last year the government ordered a review of Canada’s largest Veteran’s Centre after receiving complaints that veterans were being neglected, receiving sub-standard care and exposed to bedbugs.
A review by the chief operating officer of Baycrest Health Sciences concluded that the complaints were unfounded.
