Jonas Kaufmann’s has shown why he’s being called the “new king of tenors.” The German singer was named best male singer at the inaugural International Opera awards.
Swedish soprano Nina Stemme was voted best Female Singer.
Frankfurt Opera was voted the best company.
The Opera Awards Foundation was founded last year by Britain’s Opera Magazine. The magazine’s subscribers also voted Kaufmann the Reader’s Choice Award.
A total of 1,500 nominations were submitted from 41 different countries. A panel of ten experts decided on the winners.
