Porter Airlines is carrying out an aggressive campaign to win over the public in its plan to fly jets into Billy Bishop Airport.
Porter is running newspaper ads and conducting telephone surveys to convince Toronto residents that the new Bombardier jets would not disrupt life along the waterfront.
Allowing jet traffic at the Island Airport would require council approval. Deputy Mayor Doug Holyday says councillors should become fully informed on the issue. He says Porter is telling him the new CS-100 jets are no noisier than the planes the airline flies into Billy Bishop now. And they climb more quickly, meaning the noise doesn’t last as long. But he wants independent proof, so he is calling for a staff report to present council with all the facts.
Porter will present a formal proposal to city council in a few weeks.
