Some movies are considered great art. But there will be a showing in some Toronto movie houses tomorrow that is about great art.
The same company that has produced broadcasts of Metropolitan Opera performances is presenting its next big-screen cultural attraction: museum art exhibits from around the world.
It all begins tomorrow with a retrospective on the portraits by Edouard Manet from the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Two more exhibits will follow: a June retrospective on the art of Edvard Munch from the Munch Museum in Oslo, and a showing of works by Johannes Vermeer from the National Gallery in London in October.
The art presentations are slickly produced documentaries giving viewers a VIP guided tour of current or recently ended exhibitions from noted art historian Tim Marlow.
Cineplex will present the Manet film tomorrow in selected Toronto theatre, with encore presentations over the next few weeks
