Ontario’s Premier said earlier this week she would be willing to go to a provincial election over funding for transit in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Areas.  But Kathleen Wynne says she does not intend to call an election for May, as Toronto City Councillor Doug Ford has dared her to do.  Ford says if Wynne goes to an election in May, he’ll run for the Progressive Conservatives to help defeat the Liberal government.  But Wynne says her goal is to govern.  “We’re working on putting a budget together that will have enough common ground in it that we’ll get support from the other side of the floor.  Whether it’s from the Conservatives or the NDP, we believe that there’s a lot of common ground among us.  And as I said during leadership, I’m running to govern and I believe the people of Ontario want to see the minority parliament work.”

As for Councillor Ford’s intentions to run for provincial government, Wynne says, “I think it’s terrific when people decide they want to throw their hats in the ring.  Whenever there’s a provincial election, we’ll be ready for it.”

This is Doug Ford’s first term as a Toronto City Councillor.  He is seen as the biggest supporter and ally of his brother, Mayor Rob Ford.
