After being closed for the statutory Easter holiday, Toronto’s Yorkdale Mall is scheduled to open for business as usual this morning.

Mall managers say they are shocked and saddened by a fatal shooting outside the mall on Saturday evening and are co-operating fully with the police investigation.

Detective Rob North says police continue to scour the scene. But he adds people should not begin to believe Toronto is an unsafe city.  “I believe Toronto is a very safe city.  It’ s no different than any other major metropolitan city.  I would not want to draw any references to any other major incident that’s happened in this city.  We have no information that this incident is connected to any other major incident in this city.”
Twenty-three-year-old Michael Nguyen of Toronto was fatally wounded and a 24-year-old man is in critical condition in hospital.  Police say they do not believe it was gang-related but there is more than one suspect.
