It’s a sad day for Toronto book-lovers.

The landmark Nicholas Hoare bookstore on Front Street is closing  it’s doors forever today.

This will be the last store to go – after the Ottawa and Montreal locations closed last year.

Nicholas Hoare  opened the first store specializing in British books in Montreal in 1971-  and the Toronto store in 1989.

Hoare and his family will be moving  into a new  home southwest of Halifax,  in July.

He says he  treasured his customers and staff and will  continue his blog,  which went online last June, to  provide updates on his plans to build an 18,000 volume library  at his new home.
