At Queen’s Park, NDP leader Andrea Horwath is threatening to bring down the minority Liberal government over the issue of insurance rates.

Horwath is angry that insurance payouts have been reduced, but insurance rates have stayed the same, or gone up. Horwath is demanding a 15 per cent reduction in insurance rates, or she will stop supporting the Liberal government.

Premier Kathleen Wynne agrees insurance should be costing less, but people scamming the system are keeping rates high.

Andrea Horwath will meet with members of the Insurance Bureau of Canada this morning. They’re expected to explain to her why fraud is keeping rates from declining. If she’s not convinced, we could be looking at a spring election.
