It appears to be a contradiction. A recent survey suggests the number one flu concern for older Canadians is spreading it to their loved ones. But the Leger Marketing research also shows only about 30 percent get the flu vaccine. Doctor Jay Keystone is the Director of the Medisys Travel Health and Immunization Clinic in Toronto. He tells the New AM 740’s Goldhawk Fights Back this finding is a surprise, “because if you look in Canada at the deaths from flu, ranging from something like 4000 to 6000. Over 90 percent of them are individuals over 65.” He says pharma companies have been trying to come up with a flu vaccine specific to older people, which would have a greater immune response.
