No Canadians were in the running for Grammy Awards in the Classical category this year. But some prominent artists took home trophies.

Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony took the award for Best Orchestral Performance for their recording of works from the mid 1980’s by American composer John Adams: Harmonielehre and Short Ride in a Fast Machine.

The Metropolitan Opera’s recording of Wagner’s Der Ring Des Nibelungen won the best Opera recording.

Kim Kashkashian took the Best Classical Instrumental solo award for her recording Kurtag and Ligeti.

Life and Breath – Choral Works by the Kansas City Chorale won best Choral Performance.

And Meanwhile from Eighth Blackbird has won Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance.
