She was the last of a trio who became surrogate sweethearts to lonely service men during the Second World War.
Patti Andrews has died. She was the youngest member of the Andrews Sisters, just 19 years old when the trio recorded their first number one hit.
Patti and her sisters, Laverne and Maxine, recorded more than 46 top-ten hits and sold more than 90-million records during the Forties and Fifties. They travelled extensively to entertain the troops during the Second World War, second only to Bob Hope in the number of shows they performed for servicemen.
They also made several movies, beginning with Buck Privates in 1941, in which they introduced their signature tune, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.
Patti Andrews was 94.
