The Shaw Festival is celebrating a surplus of $19,000 for the 2012 season.
That’s a $1.5 million dollar turnaround in a single year.
Hazel Claxton is treasurer for the Shaw Festival Board of Directors.
She says the surplus comes after two consecutive seasons of significant losses.
Claxton attributes the improvement in the bottom line to cutting expenses by $3.5 million – bringing the Shaw’s budget down from more than $30 million to less than $27 million dollars .
The Festival’s 52nd season features 10 productions beginning April 3rd running until October 27th .
Tickets are on sale now.
