The intersection of Bathurst and Front was closed for several hours because of an overnight accident involving a paid duty Toronto Police officer who was out of his cruiser at the time on a paid duty assignment.  The 43 year old officer is in serious condition in hospital after he was hit by a vehicle travelling southbound.  Toronto Police Constable Clint Stibbe was on the scene of the accident.  He told CP24, “He had exited his police motor vehicle, but he was struck by a southbound Toyota motor vehicle operated by a 38 year old man.  He did suffer serious injuries.  He was thrown into the vehicle, so he had basically gone through the windshield into the motor vehicle.  He was transported to a local trauma centre for treatment.  He is suffering from serious injuries, but non-life threatening.”

No word yet on whether the driver of the Toyota is facing charges.  The intersection of Bathurst and Front has since reopened to traffic.

 

 

A reconstruction team is on the scene of Front and Bathurst to determine if charges will be laid.  The Toronto police officer who was hit is expected to survive his injuries.
