A New York City gallery is showcasing once lost and now rediscovered film footage of iconic movie star, Marilyn Monroe, shot in 1955.

Peter Mangone was a grade 9 high school student in New York who skipped class to stake out the hotel where Marilyn was staying.

Monroe had just divorced Joe DiMaggio and was living at the hotel while taking classes at the Actors Studio.

Mangone used his new movie camera and caught the star as she emerged from the hotel and noticed the young fan.

According to the Danziger Gallery, Monroe invited him to follow her for the next few hours, recording her as she walked around midtown Manhattan,  blowing kisses and otherwise looking pensive  in her fur-trimmed black cashmere suit.

Peter Mangone died recently, but did live to see the film go on display.
