It seems Toronto’s Mayor will have to make some compromises during a second day of city council debate on the 2013 operating budget.  Some of Rob Ford’s allies on council broke ranks yesterday in support of at least delaying controversial cuts to remove five fire trucks and close a fire station on Runnymede Road.  The Mayor is also expected to give in to a move for an additional $1.16 million to a student nutrition program, which will likely have the support of a majority of councillors. Councillor Doug Ford, says his Mayor brother is ready to see some other points of view.  “Everyone has to give a little bit.  The Mayor was criticized that he never compromises.  He’s showing the art of compromise now.”

Earlier in the day, Mayor Ford voted against his own budget  in favour of Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti’s snap motion for a property tax freeze.  Ford’s budget includes a 2 percent tax increase.  A spokesman for the mayor say Ford was being open minded, “and if council had wanted the zero percent he would have found the money to make it happen.”
