Rob Ford now waits to hear whether he gets to keep his job as Toronto’s Mayor.  Three divisional court judges heard arguments yesterday in Ford’s appeal of another judge’s decision to remove him from office for conflict of interest.  His fate could rest on whether the judges believe the council debate on Ford’s repayment of donations for his football foundation should have occurred in the first place.  The senior judge on the panel has promised a “prompt” decision.  After yesterday’s proceedings, Mayor Ford said he wants to get back to business.  “I’m not going to comment on anything that’s before the courts.  I’m going to continue fighting for the taxpayers.  I’ve got a lot of phone calls that I need to go home and make right now.  I’ve got a lot of emails I’ve got to respond to, and I just want to thank everyone for their outpouring of support.”

If Rob Ford loses his appeal, Deputy Mayor Doug Holyday would become Toronto’s interim mayor.  Council would then decide whether to call a 7-million dollar by-election or vote on an appointed replacement.
